Emergency Repair Parts Suggestion List |
| 1. |
Two hydraulic jacks (also called bottle or
pistol jacks), one large and one small to suit the weight
of the load to be raised. |
| 2. |
Jumper cables. I have more than once left
the light on in the trailer tack box. |
| 3. |
Replacement fuses. If you have a true problem,
the fuse will not solve it. But if the fuse just got
old and weak, maybe it will. Keep a variety, or it will
be the one you didn’t buy that goes out. |
| 4. |
Flashlight, and turn it on occasionally to
see if it still lights. Batteries will get weak if left
in the heat for very long. It will probably work forever
until the time you really need it. |
| 5. |
Electrical tape, duct tape, and hay twine.
I can rebuild a vehicle with these three parts and a
six-pack. |
| 6. |
Spare tire (one that holds air) and a spinner,
or better yet a socket, an extension, and a breaker
bar. I have even at times had to put a pipe on the breaker
bar. The gorillas at the tire shop like to lean on their
air wrenches! |
| 7. |
Tool box , heavily armed. Put all the junk
in out of the garage tool box you never use, even those
old chewed up screwdrivers. It might turn into a hole
punch or a pry bar, you never know. |
| 8. |
Tire gauge, one with a long enough handle
to reach the inside dually. Why is it that this one
is always the one with the problem? |
| 9. |
Flares or emergency hazard markers. If you
use the markers, don’t forget to pick them up before
you drive off. I acquired my set this way, thank you
to whomever! |
| 10. |
Bungee cords. You never know what you’ll
need to attach to where! |
| 11. |
Heavy duty gloves. You may have to push. |
| 12. |
Tow strap, in case you have someone to help
you, and you don’t want to push! |
| 13. |
Trailer cord cap. Why does this thing always
jump out of the socket and drag itself to death before
I find it? |
| 14. |
Wiring diagram of the cord cap, neatly folder
and stashed in the glove box. You may save someone’s
life with it someday, if they need your help. |
| 15. |
A tiny Common and a tiny
Phillips screwdriver to replace the cord cap. |
| 16. |
12 volt test tool with a light in it. |
| 17. |
Extra light bulbs for the trailer. |
| 18. |
Rags or folded paper towels. |
| 19. |
Old towel or bath mat to lie on. |
| 20. |
Small tube of waterless hand cleaner. |
| 21. |
Lighter and/or matches. |
| 22. |
Cut 2X4’s and 4X4’s into 10” pieces. You
can use them for chock blocks, jack stands, or helpers
if you need to park a trailer and leave it and the terrain
is too soft for the wheel. They can also be used for
a signal fire, if the matches still work. |
